Grótta, Birdlife & Nature - Reykjavik
Grótta is a beautiful place, located west on Seltjarnarnes, it is especially great for bird lovers. Around 106 bird species can be spotted there and it is a great place for kids to collect shells. Once in a while, a seal is spotted on the shore. The area is protected and you need to be careful around 1st of May until July, since there are many birds who nest there. Please do not pick up any eggs and be aware of the flood tide.
This spot is used for sea swimming, the water is very cold all year round. Sea swimming is only recommended for good swimmers and for those who dare to take a swim in the cold sea.
Grótta is located a few miles from the city center, on the west side of the town Seltjarnarnes.
